INTERVIEW TIPS & PREPARATION

Interviews can generally be divided into three categories:

  1. TRADITIONAL INTERVIEWS - This is the most common and usually consists of a series of standard questions about: qualifications, work experience, knowledge (general, sector, company specific), and possibly, expectations.​

  2. CASE STUDY INTERVIEWS - Case studies can be very challenging and need deep thought. Think before you jump in to answer. This form of interview is very common in management consulting and the idea is to gauge whether you have the ability to think logically, that you can ask the right questions and, that you can communicate effectively with the interviewer (or client). There is a strategy to case studies and I have trained candidates who have gone on to secure job offers following successful execution.

  3. BEHAVIOURAL INTERVIEWS - Contrary to popular belief, these questions are not designed to trap you but rather, to draw from perhaps your own past experience and to see how you coped in certain situations.

 

... and then you have what is very common nowadays,

 

  • VIRTUAL INTERVIEWS - These have now become the norm during the pandemic and I can coach you on how to navigate virtual interviews and remain professional & calm in the midst of technical glitches (incl. Zoom outage(s), hot mikes, or other unexpected interruptions.

 

  • So, whether you’re interviewing candidates, are a candidate preparing for interview(s), a start-up preparing to pitch to investors or an entrepreneur making sales calls to potential customers or suppliers, virtual interviews are the new norm and the skills and etiquette required are not always the same as those of face-to-face meetings or, presentations.
