How to lead with Emotional and Cultural Intelligence in the era of AI

  • In an era of rapid change and AI integration, Emotional Intelligence (EQ), has become essential in shaping the future of Inclusive Leadership.

  • Whether it’s fast changing trends, demographics, social, economic changes, customer/employee expectations, as well as changes at home, Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is becoming a critical skill required to help us navigate complex environments that we increasingly find ourselves living or working in.


EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (EQ) - Using EQ to build self-awareness, empathy and communication skills in AI driven environments

  • Many employees and/or colleagues are no longer willing to leave their home lives or lived experiences outside the (office) front door. Our experiences shape us, and that influences how we lead and interact with others.

  • Coupled to all this, we now have AI, which brings both opportunities and challenges. AI, if not used properly, risks upholding or indeed, perpetuating societal biases, prejudices and stereotypes due to their reliance on (limited) data sets.

  • One way forward is Emotional Intelligence (EQ), a skill which enables leaders to build cultures and organisations that embrace diversity and fairness, ensuring AI tools are transparent and beneficial to all.

  • When we live and lead with EQ, we make a point of taking a step back, assessing situation(s) calmly and ensuring we build organisations led by Inclusive Leaders who in turn, build AI tools that reflect our societies, communities, customers and employees.

  • In addition, EQ enables leaders to address potential biases in AI systems making EQ Leaders more likely to be aware of the importance of creating, buying, or deploying, AI that is fair, transparent, and beneficial for all, with the by-product being inclusive organisational cultures.

THE EQ+CQ=DQ EDGE


  • At ExecutiveGlobalCoaching we use a three-pronged approach: emotional awareness and empathy (EQ); cultural understanding and adaptability (CQ) and; valuing diversity in creating inclusive environments and systems (DQ).

  • CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE (CQ) – Leveraging CQ to navigate and thrive in diverse cultural settings and build strong, global teams & relationships.

  • DIVERSITY INTELLIGENCE (DQ) – Build DQ skills to create inclusive environments and AI systems where everyone feels valued and respected.

  • We call this the ‘EQ+CQ=DQ’ methodology – fostering Inclusive Leadership and organisations while showcasing the unique intersection of Leadership and AI and driving meaningful change.

  • Organisations run by leaders equipped with EQ, CQ and DQ skills will by default, have the skills & capabilities to ensure the AI tools they design & deploy, don't discriminate against certain marginalised groups and/or perpetuate existing biases.

  • By adopting EQ+CQ=DQ, organisations will naturally be better equipped to comply with regulations like the EU AI Act which came into force on 1 August 2024, and is also applicable to non-EU countries including the US and UK, if they have any employees and/or customers in the EU.
